Interaction Designers work to understand user journeys and use prototypes to deliver services, products and tools which fulfil user needs. They work alongside other Designers, Front-end Developers, Researchers and Software Engineers to deliver services designed for the people who use them.
Summary of the Role and key responsibilities:
- You will support the Lead Interaction Designer and work with designers across the DWP's Health Transformation programme.
This will involve:
- setting up processes and standards to support designer's ways of working, for example documenting design decisions and design debt
- coordinating a design and accessibility audit across the end-to-end service, to identify inconsistencies and design debt
- identifying and documenting common patterns, including writing design guidance specific to Health Transformation programme and working with the DWP Design System team
- supporting designers to solve problems together to enable consistent design
- providing interaction design support to teams
- being an active member of the design community
- demonstrating best practice in user centred design and prototyping
- understanding and helping others work towards the Health Transformation programme' service vision
Technical Skills required:
We're looking for a Senior Interaction Designer who can demonstrate skills and experience in the following:
Work with User Researchers to plan and develop research activities that help teams to better understand users
- Evidence and context based design.
Lead the design of solutions that are based on evidence and help identify any gaps in knowledge.
Use a variety of prototyping tools and methodologies, advising others on prototyping best practice.
Present your work and explain ideas in a way that people understand. Actively listen to other people's input and facilitate discussions.
Promote the importance of inclusive design and how to design with accessibility in mind. You need to be familiar with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines and able to design to meet AA standards.
Work in the open, engaging others in the design process. Offer advice on improving working practices, leading to better collaboration across teams.
Knowledge and Experience required:
- Experience of working as an interaction designer on UK government transactional services
- Experience of working with the GOV.UK Design System and GOV.UK Service Manual
