Overview
We are seeking an experienced Python Developer to join a high-performing agile delivery team working on large-scale digital services. The ideal candidate will bring strong Back End engineering skills, experience building scalable solutions, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and optimise Back End services using Python
- Build and integrate APIs, microservices, and data processing components
- Write clean, testable, well-structured code following best practices
- Work closely with DevOps, Architects, BAs and other developers to deliver robust solutions
- Develop automated tests (unit, integration) to ensure high code quality
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement
- Troubleshoot and resolve production and performance issues
- Support agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and estimation
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Python (Flask, Django, or FastAPI)
- Proven background in building Back End services and APIs
- Experience working with SQL/NoSQL databases
- Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git)
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices
- Experience in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
Desirable Skills
- Experience within the public sector or GDS-aligned projects
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with asynchronous Python (eg, asyncio)
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform)
- Understanding of security considerations within Back End development
