Overview

We are seeking an experienced Python Developer to join a high-performing agile delivery team working on large-scale digital services. The ideal candidate will bring strong Back End engineering skills, experience building scalable solutions, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimise Back End services using Python
• Build and integrate APIs, microservices, and data processing components
• Write clean, testable, well-structured code following best practices
• Work closely with DevOps, Architects, BAs and other developers to deliver robust solutions
• Develop automated tests (unit, integration) to ensure high code quality
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement
• Troubleshoot and resolve production and performance issues
• Support agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and estimation

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Python (Flask, Django, or FastAPI)
• Proven background in building Back End services and APIs
• Experience working with SQL/NoSQL databases
• Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git)
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices
• Experience in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)

Desirable Skills

• Experience within the public sector or GDS-aligned projects
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with asynchronous Python (eg, asyncio)
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform)
• Understanding of security considerations within Back End development
