Senior Data Warehouse Engineer (Permanent)

Location: West Midlands Country: UK Rate: £55k - £70k per annum

Senior Data Warehouse Engineer - Design, Developing and Testing
Location: West Midlands - Hybrid 2 days on site a week
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Up to £70,000

Our client is seeking a Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in designing, building, testing, and deploying Data Warehouse environment and solutions. This role encompasses the entire life cycle, from planning to data consolidation and aggregation. The Data Engineer will ensure all data products and solutions within the business insights ecosystem meet high standards of resilience, robustness, and reliability, while maintaining thorough documentation.

Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, test, and document ETL and ELT solutions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including lineage, for all productionised solutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate solution performance and suitability.
  • Ensure the planned architecture of the Data Warehouse environment is delivered.
  • Maintain data models, schemas, and metadata repositories.
  • Monitor and maintain operational data warehouse builds, resolving issues promptly.
  • Identify and escalate potential quality issues or performance risks during monitoring.
  • Assure that developed solutions adhere to agreed standards and controls.
  • Guarantee the release and promotion of newly developed solutions to enhance user functionality and productivity.
  • Provide and improve templates, forms, and processes to standardise the Data Warehouse environment and solutions.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Experience designing, developing, and testing Azure Data Factory/Fabric pipelines, including PySpark Notebooks and Dataflow Gen2 workflows. Previous experience with Informatica Power Centre is desired.
  • Significant experience in designing, writing, editing, debugging, and testing SQL code, stored procedures, and database schemas, preferably for Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Working as part of a data warehouse or data engineering team.
  • Experience with both Cloud (Azure) and On-premise configurations.
  • Proficiency in using Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
  • Good understanding of Datamodelling concepts and working within an end-to-end BI life cycle.
  • Experience working within challenging and complex environments.

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in data warehouse management best practices, controls, and standards.
  • Ability to design and code ETL solutions for dimensional, OLAP, and relational-based systems.
  • Experience with Kimball and Inmon architectures for solution design.
  • Knowledge of designing data quality and master data management processes.
